The report presents current information on the Russian bitumen market as of January 2012.

The objectives of this market research report are to describe the state of the Russian bitumen market and to provide relevant information on the volume of production, exports, imports, consumption and market conditions, changes that occurred in 2010, as well as to build a forecast of the industry in the medium term period up to 2017.

Currently, the main end-uses of bitumen is road construction; In 2011, 86.4% of the end uses market went towards this segment, while about one-tenth went to roofing materials and the remaining 4.2% was used in capital construction.

The domestic bitumen industry has been floundering a bit due as of late due to low-quality products that consumers buy only because of its inexpensiveness. There are no specific requirements for the bitumen producers to develop a better product nor are they expressed; still, neither producers nor consumers are satisfied with the existing status quo. On the other hand, it is understood that a mandated state program on development of Russian roads will increase the demand for bitumen, which, given budgetary constraints, most likely means that any designs on improving the product is not in the immediate offing.

In December 2011 negotiations were completed on the terms of Russia's accession to the WTO. Undoubtedly, this fact will be one of the main factors influencing the development of the bitumen market medium term. The report contains information on changes of conditions for foreign suppliers of bitumen as well as an analysis of the consequences for Russian producers. All market scenarios are built into the report, taking all factors into account.
